HOW TO COMPOSE - a Crash Course in Composition!

So many options! Let's just start with 3 notes and see where it leads, you'll be very surprised! An understanding of note-reading, scales, chords and intervals is beneficial. This presentation uses Sibelius Notation Software.

    • Revision of note-reading, scales, chords and intervals, simple cadences and progressions; practice rhythm exercises
    • It all begins with an idea, either a theme or melody, bass riff or percussion
    • Practice humming a simple tune and notate it
    • Developing the idea - how do we find the right bass notes?
    • Determining key/time signature/form and style
    • Primary chords, inversions, relative minors, bass note inversion
    • Major scale pattern, tones/semitones
    • Building chords on the notes of the scale
    • Developing theme/melody - 2nd verse

HOW TO ARRANGE

Many styles including pop, rock, swing, latin and contemporary dance beats. Learn to dissect a beat and listen to and analyse the individual instruments to create your own beat. This presentation uses Sibelius Notation Software.
