Music Creations

Classically trained on the piano and attaining ATCL Diploma in Piano Performance at age 16, I had informal ear-training throughout childhood which has broadened my understanding of a wide range of styles. Performed as pianist, guitarist and bass guitarist and have been musically involved with shows and jazz groups. Currently performing at The Spencer on Byron Hotel, Takapuna, Auckland as Cocktail Pianist, see above for dates.

I compose a variety of piano music including educational piano repertoire books for the progressing pianist, Thumbs on C and All Keyed Up Levels 1-4, and arranged Christmas Crackers! for piano, and many other titles now available at various levels. click here to view. From this collection Trinity Guildhall and ANZCA have published several pieces in their piano examination books and NZMEB have included 14 pieces in their syllabus. All books, sheet music and CD are available to purchase. Please email me here or contact your local Sheet Music Dealer.

My passion is composing music for a variety of instruments and arranging for bands, ensembles, orchestras and last but not least, the humble piano (which is where it all started!)

I have recently achieved a Master Certificate for Orchestration for Film & TV through Berklee College of Music, 2013 where I was a recipient of The Berklee Music, Online Celebrity Scholarship for Songwriting for Film & TV.

Special thanks to my teachers over the years; my Mum, Lynne Mounsey (classical); my Dad, John Mounsey (lots of other styles and taught me to play by ear); the late Betty Dunbar (with whom I sat ATCL piano performance diploma and theory); Auckland jazz icon, Mike Walker (jazz) and sought after Auckland piano and composition tutor, Dr Anita Geertsema (composition); and my many other tutors at Berkleemusic, Boston.

Paul Ellery, Head of Music and Arts Faculty, Hillcrest High School, Hamilton, NZ says;

'Hello, I Love You' by the Doors, for solo electric violin with string accompaniment; 'Waterloo Sunset', by The Kinks for orchestra, choir and soloists; to name just two, have been met with quality, imaginative arrangements and always within the deadline. Thank you so much for letting my dreams become a reality".

Sue Radford - Musical Director of Choir, Hillcrest High School, Hamilton, NZ says;

'Both arrangements are great thanks Sandy. Gonna be great !!!!!'

Jack Freeman - Instructor of Film Scoring 101, Berklee Music

'Well done, you can really write! A very nice project'.

Rae Patterson, FIRMT, Whangarei, says

'The book (Thumbs on C) arrived yesterday I am very delighted with it. The general presentation, large clear print, everything so suitable and attractive for young students. Thank you. I am sure my little 6 yr old student will really love this, she will also like it because it will be new to her two older sisters, but they will enjoy doing the accompaniments.'

Judy Utting, IRMT Waikato, says

'My granddaughter has enjoyed Thumbs on C. It has stretched her little fingers and been a great help. I must order more copies for beginner students who need more interesting repertoire'.
